Wincanton Town Council Tree Plant
Wincanton Town Council Tree Plant – Thursday 24th January 2019
On Thursday 24th January 2019, children from Wincanton Primary School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School and King Arthur’s School joined Wincanton Town Council to help plant fourteen new trees at Wincanton’s Recreation Ground. The planting was part of the Town Councils vision to invest in the regeneration of the Recreation Ground, which has already seen the addition of a new play area and access bridge over the River Cale. Also a new communal shelter was constructed last year.
The Town Council and a team from South Somerset District Council carried out the planting with the three mentioned schools. During the event the children were given information on the trees they were planting, which included Acer camppestre (Field Maple), Aesculus indica (Indian Horse Chestnut), and Quercus coccinea (Scarlet) Oak).
Wincanton Town Council will continue to improve the area, working along side the local community.
Signage marking the trees planted by each local school that took part in the Tree Planting were erected on 2nd April 2019.
